Road Tyres

A good set of bike tyres can mean all the difference between a safe or a dangerous ride. The better or more appropriate your tyres are for the riding you do and the road conditions you ride in, the safer you will be.

A great deal of research has gone into the different road biking tyres now available for a variety of conditions. With continental road bike tyres leading the way in providing a comprehensive range of tyres and tyre products to suit every situation.

Road bike tyres have traditionally been clincher wheels with an inner tube. However, now you can get tubeless road bike tyres which employ the type of technology usually associated with mountain biking.

Although it may be impossible to guarantee totally puncture proof road bike tyres these developments have led to puncture resistant road bike tyres which benefit from materials like carbon. Carbon is light and strong and can reduce the risk of a flat tyre due to curbing or hitting obstacles.

Whilst focusing on the type of material used in producing bikes and bike tyres is important it is also worth looking at tyres for specific types of riding. Today you can get training tyres, triathlon tyres, grand prix tyres and race tyres, with or without puncture resistant technology.

Different tyres have different tread patterns, from slick road tyres for summer racing or training to fully treaded for winter riding and everything in between. This even includes tyres with a slick centre and treaded sides for protection from slipping whilst cornering; signalling just the start of what is bound to be many further developments in tyre technology.
