MTB Helmets
Whatever type of cycling you do there is absolutely no excuse for not wearing a helmet for protection. Modern helmets are light weight, look great and most importantly will provide essential protection should you be involved in an accident while riding. If you do a lot of mountain biking then the type of helmet you buy will be influenced by your style of riding and there is a wide range of different helmets available to ensure you get a perfect fit and optimum protection.
Downhill mountain bike helmets are particularly important as the chances of having a crash are far greater than if you are riding recreationally or taking part in single track or cross country events. A crash while riding downhill can result in severe injuries which is why many downhill cyclists prefer to wear full face MTB helmets.
The advantage of a full face helmet is that it will protect all of your face including your cheeks and chin should you come off your bike in an accident. They feature full ventilation to stop you getting too hot while you are cycling and generally have a visor to protect your eyes from the sun or wayward branches. While they undoubtedly offer better protection against injury, however, full face helmets can be bulky and can sometimes restrict your vision. They can also be heavy when worn for extended periods of time. Ultimately it is up to you to find the right helmet to suit your riding style, but there is never any excuse to ride without one.
