Sports Glasses
Unlike in many sports, cyclists really need to use eyewear. Cycle glasses do not just keep the sun out of your eyes or look trendy, they protect against dust, flies and debris, wind burn, cold and wind chill too. Whether you are looking for mountain bike glasses, road shades or both, there are some general qualities to be looking out for.
Do you need prescription glasses? If so, you need cycle glasses that will fit over your existing pair, or some that you can buy prescription lenses for. Most glasses will profit from being adjustable. This is good for general comfort.
Safety is always key and our eyes are fragile. You need glasses that are durable and with lenses that have some kind of shatter resistance. This is especially true for MTB glasses, where accidents are more likely.
Make sure that they fit snugly and securely, again, especially if you need MTB glasses. Make sure you try them with your helmet on to ensure that one does not obstruct the other. Make sure that the lenses give good coverage for your particular eye and face shape so that you have a good field of view and are well protected.
Consider what kind of lenses you need. In high sunlight, UV protection might be a priority. Alternatively, some lenses offer anti glare properties or are suitable for cycling at night. Whatever your preference, try on a pair if at all possible.
