Tri Bars

Triathlon bike bars can look quite alien to anyone who is used to more run of the mill cycles. However, for a serious rider the triathlon bars can be the difference between first place and a pitiful position further down the list of competitors. There are several different triathlon bars available, each of which has its own design quirks and specific applications.

Triathlon aero bars are intended to be used to achieve maximum forward momentum and an optimal aerodynamic position for the rider by putting their arms in a forward position to lessen the air resistance they meet as they cycle. Some feature padding to allow for added comfort and there are those which even feature spring loaded hinges in order to make it easy to move them out of the way when they are not in use, which is particularly handy when tackling climbs.

Traithlon handlebars can sometimes integrate a setup which allows you to take up a seating angle which is more readily associated with a road bike while still getting the advantages of the aerodynamic properties of tri bikes. This makes them a good crossover option if you are just getting into the triathlon event and want to train on a platform which makes you comfortable while still allowing you to develop skills and work on your weaknesses to turn them into strengths. Take a close look at the weight of any traithlon handlebars you consider as well as the material from which they are constructed to get an idea about their capabilities.
