Tri Seat Posts

As with all triathlon-related bike equipment triathlon seat posts need to be smarter than the average cycling components to cut the mustard. A triathlon bike seat post must be lighter, stronger and more aerodynamically designed than typical items, but because this is a competitive end of the market there are many different options available to riders who want to improve their performance during training and racing. A variety of brands create seat posts for tri bikes, including Bontrager, Look, Thompson and many more. At the base of the market you will find affordable seat posts which are crafted from sturdy alloy material. Look out for custom butted tubing to ensure that the weight is kept to a minimum and also consider the angles of adjustment offered to ensure comfortable seating.

If you are willing to spend a little more then you can get a seat post which is made from carbon. Carbon seat posts have particular advantages because the material is stronger and lighter than alloy. You can even find hybrid seatposts which combine elements of alloy and carbon for a well balanced level of performance. Some seat posts are available with integrated suspension which can help to reduce the impact of road rumble and bumps when you are out and about. These may not be ideal for competitive situations, when stiffness can take precedent over ride quality, but for those in training over long periods it might be sensible to take the edge off with a specialised seat post that includes shock absorption.
