Some cycle helmets have been specifically designed for women. Womens bike helmets have been designed for a perfect fit and come in all colours and graphic effects. Ladies bicycle helmets differ from those of their male counterparts in shape and size.

It is very important that the helmets have comfortable foam padding for safety and support. Secure straps are crucial to prevent movement.

Womens bike helmets have been designed for road use, mountain bikes and BMX. Helmets for on road and off road have very different requirements. Off road helmets are often "full face".

One of the leading designers of ladies bicycle helmets is Scott, who got its name creating carbon bikes. The company now has a great accessory range offering lightweight bike helmets with lots of air vents inserted, allowing cold air in and hot air out to increase rider comfort. The Scott Wit is a mountain bike helmet which combines performance features with a great race weight design. It has an automatic lock system which holds the helmet secure and has a unique fit strapping system which offers easy adjustment, comfort and stability. The Scott Vanish is another mountain bike helmet but it is minimalist, unlike other helmets used for the same purpose. The conehead structure protects the user from accidents. The foam in this helmet has been moulded in such a way to increase the surface area, therefore reducing impact.

Some helmets, particularly those designed for off road come with a visor. Multipurpose helmets, designed for road and off road use have a removable visor. The visor can be used to keep the sun and rain away from your face.
